July 2007

Hi everybody! I'm back from another unannounced vacation from this site, where I come from the land of San Diego, from a kingdom known as the 2007 International San Diego Comic Con. Now let me tell you something about the San Diego Comic Con: It's huge! This is the sort of place that can remind you why you love comics (and that you have a comic site that needs updating). This is also the sort of place where you can discover a hatred for conventions and people in general. All the pushing and shoving got to my nerves after awhile. Several autograph signings didn't work out very well for me. I got two raffle tickets to meet Stan Lee, and then Lee canceled the signing with no rescheduel. Then later on in the day I see him walking in the con, and follow him through the con like many other fanboys do. Still, makes me wonder: If Lee's AT the con, then how difficult can it be to sit him down in front of a table and have him sign for an hour?! Sorry if you're reading this Stan, but the cancelation WAS pretty disapointing! What's also disapointing though is my attempts to meet Matt Groening resulted in misery. Another raffle event, I walked through the line FIVE TIMES without winning a single ticket!

I wonder if I should take my revenge on Matt in my review for "The Simpsons Movie?" Read and find out. That said though, there are good things about the Comic Con I do enjoy. I still enjoy the shopping, the Q&A panels, talking with indutry excutives and artists (some of which know me by first name now), and my favorite memory of this year will most likely be this one: A mother and her daughters are waiting in line for me to buy some manga from the Viz Media booth. They are talking about buying "Nana," but I politely interrupt them and warn them that "Nana" isn't really a series for young girls, and at times could be morally questionable (and yes, I'll be writing a review to explain my reasoning for that critique), but I could recommend "Full Moon o Sagashite" which was not only more suitable content wise, but a much better series in general. The next day the lady stopped me while I was walking down the hall to room six and told me that her daughter loved the two books of "Full Moon o Sagashite" they bought the previous day so much, that they bought the rest of the series today and would be visiting my website. It's things like this that make what I do worthwhile. Oh, you may be wondering why my first review for the site in a couple of months is for a movie based off a TV show.

Well, truth be told, I'm cheating. I know "The Simpsons Movie" doesn't really have anything to do with comics, but seeing as how there are so many Simpsons comics on the market, and I have a review typed up for the movie, I'm just going to cheat on this one and post it so that there's at least an update on the site. This won't start a series of regular cheats though, and if plans work out I'll have a review for a regular comic mini-series either on Wensday or Friday. Speaking of which, as usual I'll be selling many of my Comic Con goodies and autographs on the site Wensday at 5:00pm. With a few loans to pay off, and a couple extra bills to pay, I would appriciate it if you guys could check the auctions on Wensday and help me out. I'll come back Wensday to talk about some of the more noteworthy items I'm selling. In the meantime enjoy the review, and (at least for this week) updates should be picking up.
