March 2006

Today marks my first bad review. I can't say much now about it, but I will say that it's in the Confidential Confessions series. If you've read Kevin's review of Volume 6, now you can find out why he and I agreed on the grade.

Sorry I don't have a review for you today. Heck, I'm sorry for not having a review for last Friday either. I actually started three reviews, but for some reason haven't felt any "inspiration" for these reviews. They started out bad, and they went nowhere. Hopefully I'll get my inspiration back in time for Friday's update (Jaya will have a review posted on Wensday though, so there will still be something new to read this week). On a final note, today is the last day of the poster contest. Make sure to send in your entry before midnight, and the winner will be posted Friday. Good night, and good luck.

Someone up there doesn't like me. I accidentally lost the two reviews I had for last week, so I had to take a week off to write a new one. Sorry about that. But "Pet Shop of Horrors" is up Something I noticed: while Kevin is going through a bad review session, I'm going through a good one (Tokyo Mew Mew was average, for the record). It doesn't balance out since he updates more than I do, but something to bring up as that "balance" will end next week when I post my first F review. I envy his Pastel review because it not only tells you about the story, but the review itself is so entertaining because of its format. No other review can compete with that. As another random thought, once I get my hands on a Tokyopop book called Qwan, this website will have its first review in the Q section! Something else to look forward to in this strange world

Today I review "The Cartoon History of The Universe," which is bound to cause just as much controversy as "Garfield: The Movie" did when it opened in theaters (ho, ho). I also wanted to make a point that the "V For Vendetta" poster contest has been extended to March 20th, to give more time for you guys to submit your posters. As a bonus for those who have been holding out, I have updated the contest page with a couple of pictures of some of the prizes we're giving out. Or, if you don't want to go over to the page to see the pictures, here's a sampler:

You can, of course, click the image to see it much bigger, but let's just say this stuff is cool. Remember guys, the more people who enter the contest means we can do things like this again in the future. And check out the official website of the movie, which actually looks pretty cool (though I probably won't see it until April, seeing as how the local IMAX here takes forever to get Hollywood movies).

So I saw "The Big Lebowski" in the movie theaters last night. My short review is that it's a funny movie at times, but it has WAY too much foul language to keep the laughs funny! I may be alone in this world when I say this, but how come some movies have to say the f word every single sentence. EVERY SINGLE SENTENCE!!! Am I not the only person who feels that the use of the word gets old when it is said that much? It's even that funny when its used to that extent. On a side note though, it was interesting to see Philip Seymore Hoffman in that movie shortly after his Oscar win for his captivating performance as Truman Capote. It is a very interesting world we live in. Oh yeah, today's review. Um, the review is of Del Rey's "Pastel." Now just a heads up, everyone here knows that I try to keep my reviews G rated so that the whole family can read them. The reviews that have warnings in front of them are the Mature rated series, and even though reviews are pretty harmless. It is because of this I must warn you that the review itself is PG-13 rated, and that kids probably shouldn't read it. I know that's like throwing the bait out to the wolves, but I still believe there is hope that some parents still moniter what their kids view on the web. Oh, and pictures will be added later today or tomarrow. Later.

While it is late, my review for "Kaze Hikaru" is now up. This will be the first in a long line of upcoming "Shojo Beat" reviews. Yes, I'm getting around to reviewing the "Shojo Beat" series. Yes, I can hardly believe it myself. I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone for the kind e-mails they sent me during my time off. Losing my grandma was hard, but life goes on and it is time to get back to work. I just wanted to say how much I appriciate your concern. It's nice to know you people think of me as something more then a pimpled geek typing out reviews for comics. I'd also like to remind you all that we still have the poster contest going on, and that the deadline is March 15th. So if you haven't submitted your poster yet, make sure to do so. We got some cool prizes such as t-shirts and posters to give away (of which I'll have pictures of soon). On a final note I want to say that I am extremely happy that "Brokeback Mountain" didn't win the Oscar for Best Picture. I'll eplain my whole thoughts on the Oscars in my blog in the coming days, but I do want to make it a point that I didn't think "Brokeback Mountain" was anywhere near Best Picture material. Nice to see the Academy still has some smart voters on their board.

Just so no one panicks, the review will be up later this afternoon/evening. Thanks for your patience.

Sorry I'm late with the review today. Computer problems. Ironically, today's review is of Tokyo Mew Mew, which 4Kids picked up as an anime and has renamed it Mew Mew Power. Another irony is that 4Kids claimed that they wouldn't skip any episodes, yet they only have half the series. I mentioned to Kevin in an email that it was ironic because if they said they weren't going to skip anything then you assume that they have the entire series...at least it's losing its grip with Toei at least. As for Rainbow Entertainment (Winx Club), I believe the company have no idea what is happening to their series, which is a shame. GreatSaiyaman has posted links to Winx Club fansubs on DBZ Uncensored II, so go there if you're curious about the show or want to see how it originally went.
