Monday, May 31, 2004 0:34 AM

In memory of soldiers who have given their lives in the past for our freedom in America, there will be no new review today. Come back later this week for the new review.

Today I've posted a review for Ken Akamatsu's "A.I. Love You," so make sure to check it out! Also I'd like to say hello to a bunch of my friends from Gateway, who are all probably going to be checking out this site at least once today.

It sure is Monday isn't is? And you know what that means right?! It means I've got a new review posted. Today I've decided to look at the comic book movie "Hulk." And speaking of movies I'm going to take this moment to HIGHLY recomend seeing the documentary "Super Size Me!" It is a VERY entertaining and fun movie, it's playing in a limited release right now but it's worth hunting down! Also it looks as if Anime on DVD has started to post manga reviews on their site, even though their Manga @ AoD site isn't finished yet. I'm posting these links here so that you guys can get a second opinion on several of the titles I review (as well as compare reviewing styles for fun).

Despite what I said on Monday, I have in fact posted a new review for today. Go check out the review for "Ghost World!" Also, instead of having one new item for my "Item of The Week" recommendation, I have four! And trust me, if you are as big a fan of Disney as I am, then you MUST get these!

All these are DVD sets that have old classic Disney cartoons and episodes of "Disneyland," and they are all worth owning for Disney fans! However I would like to make a special mention of "Walt Disney On The Frontlines" (the third DVD). What that DVD is is a collection of old WWII cartoons and propaganda, which includes many cartoons that haven't been seen for YEARS including the now infamous "Education For Death," "Chicken Little (trust me, it's not what you think)," and the classic Donald Duck cartoon "Der Ferrur's Face," which really is one of the best Donald Duck cartoons ever made! Plus the Mickey Mouse set includes the long lost Mickey Mouse cartoon "Runaway Brain," which has never been aired on TV and hasn't been seen since 1996! Anyway you guys might want to hurry and buy these, as they are only making 165,000 copies of each set (Except for Tomorrowland and Front Line, which there will only be 105,000 and 250,000 copies respectively)! Also go see "Shrek 2." See you all on Monday!

We close off "Del Rey Week" with my review of CLAMP's "xxxHOLiC." Well...kinda. Anyway it was fun reviewing all these Del Rey books, writting four reviews in a week was kind of fun, but now I'm ready for a break. If I don't have a review up by Friday, I'll have one up Monday. In the mean time enjoy the reviews that have been posted, and if your new here, there is a whole archive of reviews at your disposal! Enjoy!

Friday, May 14, 2004 0:26 AM

As "Del Rey Week" draws near a close, I have taken a look at CLAMP's "Tsubasa." Check it out. And be here on Monday when we end "Del Rey Week" with the review for CLAMP's "xxxHOLiC." As in the words of Ubi-Do-Banoby ("Thumbwars"), it has the silliest name in the galaxy!

Wednesday, May 12, 2004 0:05 AM

We continue "Del Rey Week" with the review for "Mobile Suit Gundam Seed!" Enjoy! And also, E3 is currently going on, so if you're a fan of video games you should be checking out IGN and Gamespot on an hourly basis for all the cool news on upcoming games (drools over realistic Zelda game)!

Monday, May 10, 2004 0:17 AM

To kick off "Del Rey Week," I have posted my first review of the Del Rey's new manga lineup, starting with "Negima." Enjoy, and look for more reviews this week!

Speak of the devil! Not even a day after I post my Del Rey feature does this news come in:

Del Rey Manga Line Launches Strong
Top Two in Bookstores

The Del Rey manga line, which just launched with four titles, has debuted strong, scoring the top two and four out of the top twelve slots on the Nielsen Bookscan graphic novel bestseller list for the week ending May 2nd. Tsubasa, by CLAMP, was #1; Negima, by Ken Akamatsu, was #2; xxxHOLiC, by CLAMP, was #6; and Gundam SEED, by Masatsugu Iwase, was #12.

Seeing CLAMP and Akamatsu titles holding the #1 and #2 slots in bookstores is similar to the situation for much of 2002 and 2003, when Chobits (CLAMP) and Love Hina (Akamatsu) were often in those same slots.

The Del Rey manga titles also did well on the Bookscan over-all trade paperback bestseller list, with three in the top 50 (#20, #28, and #45).

Tsubasa was at #5 on the Waldenbooks trade paperback bestseller list, the highest ranking ever for a manga title, and Negima was #10.

The Del Rey manga line is the first big house to get into manga; it did so through its strategic alliance with Kodansha. In addition to its lineage, the Del Rey line has the benefit of strong titles and an experienced manga hand in Dallas Middaugh.

Wow! Congradulations Del Rey, you deserved your success! And for all you readers out there, keep an eye on this website for the reviews on these best selling books! Til then, catch ya later!

Sorry about the mini-rant on Sunday, I get like that sometimes, and not having a job is one of the most frustrating things ever. Anyway I think a week off of working on this site did me some good, however I'm going to get back into the groove again starting today. There isn't a new review up, but I have a new feature entitled "First Look At Del Rey Manga," which officially launches Del Rey Week here. What's Del Rey Week you ask? Keep coming back, you'll find out! See you guys on Monday.

Sunday, May 2, 2004 8:14 PM

There will be no new reviews up this week. There may not even be any new reviews for next week. I had a VERY bad day, and the last thing I want to do is write reviews on the moment! To make a long story short, I was FINALLY getting a job interview after three months of being unemployed, only to get there and have them tell me to go home because I wasn't getting one! The reason? Apparently I spent too long on answering a couple those "self personality" questions they don't care about. So I don't get to have a job interview because I didn't answer a couple of lousy questions in less then five minutes? I had to pick the phone and sign for package for pete's sake! Jerks. Anyway, I'm incredibly stressed right now, so sorry if the updates are sparse for the next couple of weeks.

Saturday, May 1, 2004 1:30 AM

Just a minor update here, added a note to my "Sailor Moon" review, archived all of April's updates, and the new item of the month is "The Last Samuri," which was a REALLY good movie (Item of the week can be found on the side bar)! So yeah, just a little house cleaning. See you Monday with another review.
