October 2005

As I promised last week, I finally have a new review posted in the form of "Tenryu: The Dragon Cycle." Check it out. There are no pictures in this review because right now my scanner is acting up a bit, but hopefully the review will be interesting enough to read without the pics (for now). See you guys next month with a new review.

Good news everyone! Last night I got some serious motivation after getting a huge manga shipment in from Right Stuf, and I wrote not one, but TWO reviews! Yes people, I have new content to upload. However I didn't get them properly edited for posting today, and on Thursday I'll be out of town until Sunday. So you can expect the first of these new reviews next week. Next Monday (while still technically being October) is so close to the new month, that I think it's best to just call most of October a long break for this site, and get back on track with things during the new month. In the meantime, just one more eBay advertisement before I head off for work: I'm selling a "Penny Arcade: Card Tube Showdown" lithograph right now! You can bid by clicking on my eBay button. Oh, and don't forget about the "Eldest" book too. Later guys.

As you can probably tell from the banner above, this site has reached the milestone of having 10,000 hits. Makes me feel bad that I don't have anything new to post today...like I didn't have anything to post all last week. I really do want to post some reviews, I just haven't had the time to write them. I'll try to have a review posted either by Wensday or Friday. Oh, and I'm selling another signed "Eldest" book, and keep an eye out for a Penny Arcade lithgraph I'll be selling in a couple of days. Also I'm working on an editorial, so hopefully that will be done soon. If you guys get inpatient waiting for new reviews, you can read my blog which has (short) updates on a bi-daily basis. Oh, and I'm still accepting applications for a new reviewer. See you guys later.

Since I have been studying for two tests this coming Tuesday (yikes) I didn't have time to properly edit todays review, and thus I will post it on Friday instead. In the mean time, enjoy the final results of my second Photoshop project (I'm sure you've seen better Photoshop stuff out there, but keep in mind I am new to this whole thing).

Like I said, not the greatest Photoshop result you've probably seen, but not a bad first effort. Catch you all on Friday.

I have posted my rather harsh review of "Ouran High School Host Club" today. Mr. "Too Hard To Please" is back (for awhile anyway). Oh, and don't forget about the signed "Eldest" book I'm selling on eBay. Check back Monday, where I'll (hopefully) have a new review for you all.

Hey everyone, I'm low on cash again, so it's time for me to plug some stuff I'm selling on eBay again. Right now the two items I have for sale is a copy of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." But this is not just any copy of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," no this is the rare LEATHER BOUND edition of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone!" The version of the book they only made 75,000 copies of. The next item I'm selling is a copy of Christopher Paolini's second Inheritance book "Eldest." But this is just ANY copy of "Eldest," this is a SIGNED copy of "Eldest!" You heard me: A signed "Eldest" book by author Christopher Paolini. Did I mention it is also a first printing version of the book and signed? Come on guys, I know a couple of you reading this want to get your hands on one of these books (if not both), so all you need to do is click on the eBay button on the sidebar and start bidding. Oh, and I'll be bidding off my "Yu Yu Hakusho" manga withen the next day or two, as I've lost enough interest in the series to stop spending money on it (but I know some of you are Yu Yu fans, so nows your chance to get them books cheap). Check back Friday for a new review (yes, it's finished. No, I'm saving it until Friday). Later guys.

Sorry guys, I didn't manage to finish the review in time for todays update, but check back Friday for a new review. However I AM still going to update with the anouncement today, so breath a sigh of relief! Here it is: For the first time ever, CBG.com is accepting applications for a new reviewer. So if you've ever wanted to be a reviewer of comic books, this might be the place for you. There are a few specific things I'm looking for though, so before you start typing out that application, check if you meet the requirements:

  • First of all, while I won't enforce this rule 100%, it would help if you are a woman applying. The reason I'm looking for a woman is to get the female point of view (which tends to be different from the male point of view). Since the second reviewer will have the option of doing second opinions on series that have already been reviewed, it would help if the review was of the opposite gender to point out things that she might like/dislike for series like "Fruits Basket" and "Battle Royale." If I get a review from a male that is perfect I'll take you on board, but I am looking for a female above all else. So start typing ladies.
  • You must have some knowledge of the HTML formatt. If you don't but happen to write excellent reviews, we'll see what sort of arangment can be made for me to post them for you (but it would be far easier on both of us if you know HTML).
  • Knowledge of FTP would be very helpful too.
  • Here at CBG.com we series as a WHOLE! Except in special cases, reviews of individuel issues and manga volumes are NOT accepted! If you want to tear appart "Rurouni Kenshin" issue by issue, then get in touch with Lister X, as we don't do that kind of thing here, and my reasons can be found in the Introduction section.
  • Must have good spelling. You don't have to be a perfect seller (Lord knows I'm not), but it must be readable and not require serious overlooking. Proper sentence strucker and a decent knowledge of comma placement helps too.
  • Reviews must be decently sized. While some series don't lend themselves to meaty reviews, you can't just make all reviews a couple paragraphs long.
  • I'm hoping you can write one review a week. Now I know this is may be a little unreasonable, so while I'm asking for one review a week, I'll really only expect a review every two weeks. If three weeks goes by without a review, you'll be getting an e-mail from me.
  • You must have a real pen name. Names like SuperSaiyan2 won't be accepted here. You can either use your real name, or a pen name that could be a real name.

Other then that, this is supposed to be fun. Hopefully you won't find my terms intimidating, as I really am a pretty easy going guy once things get established, and if there is a roadblock for one of the above things and you still want to apply, just let me know what the roadblock is and I'll see if we can work around it. Good luck, and I hope to see some reviews in my mailbox soon.

I'm very late in updating today (sorry, busy day), but I have my review of "Tokyo Boys & Girls" up. I had an anouncement I wanted to make, but I decided to make it on Monday (there's a slight chance the update wouldn't be seen by many people due to me updating this late). So check back Monday, because new review or not, there will be an anouncement. Catch you then.
